Rachel de Jong MSc started as a PhD candidate in the Computational Network Science (CNS) group in October of 2021. She received her bachelor and (cum laude) master degree at Leiden University and has an interest in exact theoretical topics such as algorithms, data structures and applying them in order to solve real-world problems. During her master thesis project, which was in collaboration with Statistics Netherlands (CBS), Rachel’s work focussed on anonymity in networks where she, for example, used a new measure to determine the anonymity of people in the family network of the entire Dutch population. For her PhD research, Rachel will continue on the topic of anonymity in networks as a part of the Population-Scale Social Network Analysis project and CNS group, also continuing the collaboration with CBS. This work aims to set steps to enable researchers and organizations (such as CBS) to share created network datasets, while still ensuring privacy for the entities represented and protection of sensitive information. For this purpose, she will also work on the research platform of POPNET.
